Kickstarter in full swing!

In case you didn’t notice the huge banner on the front page of this site, our Kickstarter campaign for The Hero’s Journey is now live!

It’s been slightly less than a week since I hit the big green button to begin the campaign. So far it has succeeded beyond anything I imagined. As I write this, we are at 69% of our fundraising goal and steadily climbing. Thank you from the bottom of my heart to everyone who has pledged already. You are helping my bandmates and me to fulfill a longstanding dream, and we quite literally couldn’t do it without you!

One of our major tasks in preparation for the launch of the Kickstarter was the completion of Departure, an EP of rough mixes of some of the tracks from the album. Everyone who backs The Hero’s Journey will get a digital copy of Departure right away, so they can get an idea of what the finished product will sound like. We’ve got the EP up on Bandcamp and you can hear the whole thing here whether you’ve backed our campaign or not:

Departure: A Hero's Journey EP by Beth Kinderman, released 01 October 2018 1. The Call to Adventure (rough mix) 2. Refusal of the Call (rough mix) 3. Supernatural Aid (rough mix) 4. The Crossing of the First Threshold (rough mix) 5. Belly of the Whale (rough mix) 6.

As the producer and engineer of the record, my bandmate Dave Stagner had one of the most labor-intensive and time-consuming roles in the preparation of the EP. He’s written a great post on Medium about his experience of producing and mixing Departure; please check it out if you’d like a glimpse into his process.

Our work on The Hero’s Journey definitely doesn’t stop while the Kickstarter is running. We’ve got recording sessions and rehearsals galore throughout the month of October in preparation for our trip to the Ohio Valley Filk Fest in just under two weeks. Watch this space for more details about our OVFF plans as the convention approaches, and for the obligatory recap after it’s ended.

Oh, and if you haven’t backed The Hero’s Journey on Kickstarter yet, you have through October 31 to do it. Thanks for reading and listening - we appreciate you. (c:
